Pukeko Update

It has been so good to see everyone back after the holidays. Welcome to Nikita, Sophie and Elijah,  new students that have started in week 1. There was great excitement from the children about our new play space courtesy of CNC Alliance. The children were able to see the team add the road markings and signs to the path. It has been heavily played on. Also this week the children have had the opportunity to help with plantings in our new garden. Lots of dirty hands, digging and watering.
We are looking forward to the official opening tomorrow at 2pm. This will give us the opportunity to say thank you to all the people who generously donated their time to give us this amazing new play area.

The mud kitchen, built by Glen in the holidays, has also been a big hit. There has been baking and pizzas in the oven, stews on the stove and this week some of the girls used a small box and iced and decorated it like a cake. Others used water, grass and hand towels to make filled wraps. Once our shed is built the mud kitchen will be moved around the side of the class where there is a large pile of dirt for them to experiment with. Children may come come home muddy on occasion.

Before we had pots and pans the children used the sports equipment to make pizza

Making Wraps

Next week we are going to look at the plants in our garden and the reasons we have them. We also have a patch of dirt that we will ask the children what they would like to do with it. There are many 'Little Gardens' from New World in our room at the moment and we will look at starting to germinate them and follow them as they grow.

These guys had a nice wee hairdresser going on. It was nice to hear them talk to each other about hair styles, cuts and colours.

Our New Playground

A huge thank you to the families that came to help construct our new playground last weekend. CNC Alliance provided around 30 volunteers, lunch and all of the equipment and materials needed for the construction. All we had to do was turn up and do some grunt work. Here are some photos of how the day progressed. We are still feeling a bit sore.

All the bits and pieces have arrived.

Volunteers hard at work.

Sienna, Leilani and their mum and dad spent the whole day with us helping out along with the Brazier family, the Smart family and the Sutcliffe's. Thanks so much for your help.

All that is left to do is to lay asphalt on the paths the team were in on Monday and will have the asphalt laid today (Tuesday). The children should be able to get on there and play today.
